Ladysmith Black Mambazo

Ladysmith Black Mambazo was formed by the Legendary Professor Joseph Shabalala in 1960.

His inspiration for the group came to him in a dream in which a choir of children sang and danced. Shabalala soon transferred that dream to real life when he formed Ladysmith Black Mambazo with his younger brothers and cousins.

One of the founding members who is still active in the group is Prof Shabalala’s cousins, Mr. Albert and Abednego Mazibuko.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo are the pioneers of Isicathamiya music including, Solomon Linda of International renowned song Mbube.

Joseph Shabalala introduced new soothing south of isicathamiya which was warmly received locally and internationally.

From the beginning of their journey, they took South African music by storm, by being the first group to sell a Gold Disc sales status.

The group released hit tracks like Nomathemba and many more which saw them becoming a most popular group in South Africa.

Their music started to transcend to all corners of the African continent and later became a global identity of African harmonies.

It is for that reason they started collaborating with world’s greatest musicians like Paul Simon who broke them in to global spheres.

After their participation on Graceland album the world became their playgroup, and they started touring the world.

They later collaborated with the likes of Steve Wonder, Michael Jackson, The Winans, Dolly Parton, Steve Wonder, Desrey, Kirk Whalham, David Guetta. Their music was featured on a movie Coming To America.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo inspired many young and established musicians like American greatest aca-pella group Take 6.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo also received an invitation from first democratic elected President, Dr Nelson Mandela when he was going to receive his Nobel peace Prize in Norway. Nelson Mandela regarded Ladysmith Black Mambazo as a mobile academy of South African Culture and Heritage.
